Information for visitors to Stavanger prison.

Visits take place in one of our 4 visit rooms. The visits will initially be carried out every day at the following times: 15:00, 17:00 and 19:00.

One of the rooms is specially equipped for families with children.  

The weekends are reserved for guests from afar. The visits will be conducted between 09:00 to 13:00 and 15:00 to 19:00.

Visits can be booked by telephone to Stavanger Prison (+4751733198) between 09:00 am to 1:00 pm. (break at 10:45 to 11:15) The booking must be made at least one week in advance before the visit.

For your information, visits can be cancelled due to staffing considerations during events for the inmates. If your visit is for some reason cancelled, you will be notified via telephone by the prison.

Visitors’ permits must be carried along with valid identification. If this is forgotten, officers will reject the visit.

It is possible to bring food to the inmates. The food should be easy to control for prison officers. Drinks must be purchased in vending machines at the prison. Here you can buy soft drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. . There is also a machine with chocolate/candy. Food and drinks must be consumed during the visit. Inmates are not allowed to take food back to their rooms.

(Remember coins for the vending machines.)

 It is not allowed to bring animals to visits.

           All visit rooms are non-smoking.

 Delivery of gifts, newspapers, magazines or money to the prisoner should be handed over to the reception before the visit. Money will be deposited into inmate accounts and gifts will be checked.

According to the Regulations to the execution of sentences act § 31, the prison will endeavour to facilitate the visits of children in a sensitive manner.

The prison has one family room and one children’s’ room with toys.

We ask all visitors to comply with applicable rules and follow instructions/ orders given by the prison officers. Non compliance with the rules can result in the visit being cancelled.

All visitors must go through a control point during entry to the prison. Everyone must pass through a metal detector and may be searched on request.
If visitors refuse this control, will they be denied access into the prison, reference Regulations to the execution of Sentences Act § 27.

We may also use dogs to control visitors.

It is NOT allowed to bring drugs, pills, weapons, mobile telephones or other items into the prison!
